Christian Bohnenstengel, native of
Mögglingen, Germany, has studied piano since age 7 with some time out to study and win prizes in guitar. In January 1999, Mr. Bohnenstengel
came to the United States to study at Missouri Western State University under Jerry L. Anderson. He graduated with the
Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in piano performance in May 2002.
While at MWSU, he was awarded the MWSU Foundation Piano Scholarship, the Presidential and STAR Scholarships, as well as the Scholastic Key Award. Mr. Bohnenstengel received the Masters of Music degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2004. He recently completed his doctoral studies in piano performance at UNL. His teachers there
included Dr. Mark Clinton, piano, and Dr. Quentin Faulkner, harpsichord and organ. He received UNL Hixson-Lied travel grants to study with Christoph Lieske at the Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum in Salzburg during the summer of 2005 and to study and perform at the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival in Prague in 2006. Mr. Bohnenstengel is currently teaching at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.
During the past several years, Mr. Bohnenstengel has received numerous honors, awards and prizes. He won Second Prize in the Missouri Music Teachers Association Collegiate Honors Piano Auditions in November 2000. The following year, he was named Winner of the Best Performance Helen Trapp Award and won Second Prize in the Missouri Music Teachers Association Collegiate Honors Organ Auditions. In 2003, he won Second Prize in the Nebraska division of the MTNA Young Artist Performance Competition. Mr. Bohnenstengel has appeared in master classes with Rita Sloan, Blanca Uribe, Ann Schein, and Murray Perahia, among others. His recent concert calendar includes recitals in Manhattan (Kansas State University), Monmouth (Monmouth College, IL), Lincoln (Nebraska Wesleyan University), St. Joseph (Missouri Western State University), Aalen (Staedtische Musikschule, Germany), and Moegglingen (Sommernachtsmusik, Germany), in addition to an appearance as guest soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto in C major, K415 with the MWSU Symphony Orchestra. | |||
